Scientist Recommends Fertility Awareness |
|
Debbie Blake, Head Scientific Officer at National Women's "Fertility Plus" unit strongly advocates that women become aware of their fertility. Her firm belief in natural fertility management may seem strange considering she carries out some of New Zealand's most high tech infertility interventions.
In 1996, Debbie studied the fertility awareness of women attending "Fertility Plus" and was shocked to discover that only a quarter of the women in her study had an adequate understanding of their fertility and how to use that information to help them get pregnant.
"My biggest recommendation is that women switch onto their own menstrual cycles and become aware of when they are ovulating. I think it's incredibly important as well as being very empowering. It's really good to keep track of when you're ovulating, what your symptoms are and if your periods are regular. They are all health indicators" said Debbie
